Here's Why Rishi Dhawan Wore A Face Shield To His IPL Comeback
Playing his first IPL game after a long time, Rishi Dhawan caught everyone’s attention as soon as he came in to bowl. Dhawan was wearing a protective face gear, one that footballers often wear to prevent their facial bones from getting damaged.
It was an eventful outing for Dhawan, who leaked too many runs but finished with two wickets. In his first over he sent Shivam Dube back to the pavilion to stall Chennai’s innings, and then successfully defended 27 runs in the final over.
Rishi Dhawan went unsold in the last three auctions before he was snapped by Punjab Kings this year for Rs 55 lakh. His last appearance in this tournament came way back in 2014, for the same franchise. He had a terrific domestic campaign with Himachal Pradesh, leading the side to their maiden Vijay Hazare trophy in 2022.

More than his bowling performance, Dhawan’s face shield became the point of interest. Fans were curious to know why Dhawan opted to wear it for the match. He has a valid reason for this.
A few weeks before the IPL started, Dhawan got hit on his face in his follow through while playing for his state in the Ranji Trophy. He was rushed to the hospital, and had to undergo surgery, due to which he was unavailable for the first four games of the IPL.
“I am making an IPL comeback after four years so it was a little disheartening when I got injured in the Ranji Trophy. I had to go through surgery which ruled me out of the first four matches, but I’m totally fine and available for selection now. I’ve been training hard and hope to have a strong comeback,” Rishi said in the video shared by PBKS.
One fan wrote how Dhawan resembled Cody Rhodes. the American wrestler and actor.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer too couldn’t hold himself back and came up with a hilarious meme.
